OK I was bored last night, and was trying to come up with something club related to do. Anyhow I came up with this.

Its a painting comp with a few differences. Basically everyone whos partaking PMs me an army from any game type they want / models from a range / Character they need, essentialy anything they may like. I then randomly mix these requests up and PM whatever it is to another player. We all then have 3 months to paint up the model ready for a handover day. I will also hold a seperate sub compation for the best painting mini as voted by you guys, who will get something nice. Im also considering letting the clubs already great painters take part if they wish, but not letting them try for best painter. Its like taking dynamite to a fishing comp, we already know your damn good after all Smiley

So whats in it for you? You get to paint a mini from a range / army you probably dont play. Youll also recieve a nicely painted mini for your army at the end of it along with the chance to win best painter. Its not to intrustive, 1 model over 3 months is long enough I reckon.

Thoughts guys? Would you take part?

How about instead of buying a new figure to paint for someone else, each participant buys their own figure and gives that to whoever will be painting it? (minis returned afterwards)

e.g. I could buy a space marine commander for my army, give it to person X to paint, and get it back at the end of the challenge. Meanwhile, Person Y gives me a Skaven Seer to paint for their force.

One thing I would note, there definitely needs to be communication between the painters to make sure the figures match the armies they are intended for!

I would also be interested in participating.

How about we supply our own figure, hand it in to Daz, Daz then distributes the figures randomly making a note of where they came from, once you receive your figure keep it under wraps and after the 3 months you post the completed figure on the forums. I like the idea of minimal contact between the painter and supplier, means you'll end up with a unique painted mini rather than just being directed to paint something for someone else's army.

Just re-read Daz's post and I agree the mini maybe should be randomly determined rather than picking your own.

I think most people would rather have a miniature which fits into their army rather than a random figure in a random colour scheme.

Note in my posts I was not saying that I would get to pick who would be painting the figure, this would still be random - just that I would be providing the miniature and guidelines to colour scheme.

I'm happy either way to be honest.

The way I would work it, I would ask each participant to supply a list of few armys or models. Example

name - Daz
Forum  - Soulshade
Would like - Anything!
Would prefer - malifaux guild faction, 40K grey knights, 40K nids (kracken), Warhammer Empire (boghoffen).
Doesnt want - Any named Warhammer Empire characters, any thing from the lady justice boxed set.

I would then PM that on to somebody, along the lines of

Ok your choices are.  - Anything.
They Would like  - Grey Knights, Nids (Kracken), Malifaux guild faction.
Not interested in - Empire named Characters.

It would be more refined then that at the time, but you get the idea. Im also looking at a price of between £5 and £15, that covers most metal blisters. Ofcourse if your fealing flush, or if there is something you think the recipiant would love and you want to paint it, you can spend what you want. Just dont expect the same in return.   Ofcourse the whole thing is done on the hush. Im the only person who should know whos doing what. The idea is its a 'surprise'. People can ofcourse post painting logs if they wish. People may figure out from this that its for them or the painter may actualy figure out who it is by the armys listed. If you do, keep it zipped please Wink

I would be interested in this, I think colour scheme needs to be decided by the end recipient - if it doesn't fit in with my army i'm not likely to use it no matter how well painted it may be!
It also appeals to me because i'm sick of painting blue marines so something a bit different would be nice, and the chance to win a prize and the adulation of my peers is a bonus too Smiley
